It’s Monday & the World is...

Well - the world hasn't stopped spinning quite yet. The sun is still rising and setting and for some of us, life continues on as it normally does. I noticed far fewer cars on the roads on the way in to my office this morning and there are fewer cars rolling through the parking lot today...

I should probably tell you that I work in a very small office and no clients or customer are actually coming in to the office - so I am pretty well "quarantined" behind my desk for now. At least until we are told differently.

The weekend somehow managed to seem both long and short - I think weekends will really start to feel this way as this whole experience progresses because something tells me that before its all said and done, options like eating out and the movie will be off the table (as they likely should be). I did got see Onward on Friday evening but even that had a certain sort of eeriness to it - the theater was only about half full. Perhaps it might be the last movie I see in theaters for a while - who can say?

I've already shared a lot about how my Saturday was spent going here and there trying to do something resembling buying groceries. Thankfully we didn't have a need for cleaning supplies or toilet paper because we'd have been completely out of luck on that - it was all completely wiped out. No pun intended. We did take some time to go the the Virginia State Arboretum on Saturday afternoon in hopes that things would be in bloom - but we didn't see too much.

The Arboretum has a field that is; for a few brief days each year, filled with Daffodils and I just knew they'd be in bloom because they are popping up everywhere right now. Alas - that was not the case at all! While there were plenty of clumps of Daffodils in bloom around the Arboretum, the field of them was still just green stems. *sigh* We did see some lovely Hellebore in bloom as well as the little purple-blue star like flowers that seem to bloom in almost a carpet across the ground.

Going to the Arboretum is a pretty good way to take part in "Social Distancing" because there is plenty of wide open space to explore and if you see other people, it's usually just a friendly smile across the meadow. I suppose if things continue in this same vein (something tells me they will) then we might have to make weekly trips to the Arboretum for outdoor time - maybe take a blanket and a good book just to take in fresh air!

Sunday morning we decided against attending services at church - most churches seemed to be in favor of cancelling but my church did not - they did offer streaming services though. We thought that would be the best bet and so I ended up watching a sermon while in my PJ's, sipping my second cup of coffee. I got in some exercise, had lunch and then went over to visit with my friend Katie for a couple hours. I know - not exactly "social distancing" but we had a good time and I feel pretty confident we are all well and didn't interact with anyone but each other.

After an afternoon catching up, munching on some delicious black bean brownies, playing with clothespin airplanes and snuggling the sweetest almost three year old, I headed back down the mountain to the house and had some leftovers for dinner. I watched the newest episode of Outlander, got clothes put away and things in order for the work week and after a bubble bath - I settled in for the new season of Westworld.

The way the world works seems to be changing day to day, even hour by hour - who knows what this week will bring? I suppose no one knows but I know that the Lord is sovereign over it all and this country can do this.. we can hang out at home and keep our loved ones safe. It's not so hard y'all!
