The First December Weekend

The weekends and the rest of the year are speeding along and passing by... I can't believe that in just two weeks it will be Christmas Eve Eve - you know, the night before the night before Christmas? There are only two weekends preceding the Christmas festivities and then, that final weekend before the year ends - where has the time gone?

Friday night was a fairly relaxed affair - as you can see, my pup made sure to use me as part of his relaxation. We grabbed dinner at one of our favorite spots for Mexican food before coming home; I did some cleaning and finished up the third season of The Crown before crawling into bed.

My Mom hosted a tea for her closest friends on Saturday afternoon but ahead of the tea, we had some errands to run on Saturday morning. We popped into the cafe & bakery that's right down the sidewalk from my office and had breakfast after picking up the petit fours, cookies and sandwiches for the tea - and man - the pancakes I had were divine! They were ricotta pancakes and they may have been some of the fluffiest things I've ever eaten!

Once we came home, I did a little reading before getting ready and helping my Mom here and there with a couple small things. This is where I should tell you that my Mom is kind of a rock star when it comes to being a hostess - and the spread she laid out and the table she set for Saturday afternoon were absolutely spectacular!

She went with a theme of blue and silver to match her wedding china and I think everything turned out so lovely! We started with fruit cups and from there had chocolate chip scones with lemon curd, strawberry jam and clotted cream (it was divine)... and then our savories were a chicken salad on croissant, a turkey and Swiss roll and of course - cucumber sandwiches! We finished with petit fours, miniature Christmas cookies, homemade chocolate truffles and dessert cups - it was all so delicious and I was stuffed!

After the tea and some clean-up, I contemplated taking a Saturday afternoon nap but decided against it. I did some more reading, wrapped some presents for my Mom's upcoming birthday and we ended up going to see A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood shortly before 8:00 - which was a really touching movie, even if it wasn't quite what I thought it would be. I still very much enjoyed it and I also very much enjoyed crawling into my bed shortly after 11:00!

Sunday morning I played around with my new Elsa palette from Colourpop - the colors went on a little darker than I thought they would, but all in all I think it turned out pretty good... I mean - I tried to replicate it again today for work, ha-ha!

Church was lovely; I especially enjoy church during the Christmas season and this year is no exception. Pastor John preached on Joy, we sang Joy to the World and then after - we went and had BBQ for lunch, which is also pretty joyous!

We also popped into Home Goods to grab a couple things and I ended up stumbling on some of the cutest little London themed ornaments that I had to add to my travel ornament collection! I also picked out an ornament for an upcoming ornament exchange... among other items! When we got home, I ended up watching the majority of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade with my Dad before we all watched the final minutes of the New Orleans Saints game... *sigh*

I rounded out the evening with a viewing of Mickey's Christmas Carol - which seemed SO LONG when I was a child but in reality is very short indeed! I had leftover sandwiches for supper, took a bubble bath, watched an episode of The Americans and then - climbed into bed!

And that's the first weekend of December, all wrapped up and in the memory books!
