Do April Showers bring May Flowers?

Man - the end of last week was filled with the aforementioned April Showers - so I am looking forward to plenty of flowers here in the next few weeks! It rained on Wednesday evening, it rained on Thursday, it rained on Friday... and there was rain in the forecast for Saturday. As you can see, Maverick was a little horrified by the continually rainy forecast, ha-ha!

Friday was a dreary day, weather-wise. The rain that had started earlier in the week just drug on and on and on... but there was a bright spot on my desk when I got to work on Friday! April is the month in which Administrative Professionals Day falls and the supervisors at our office have really been spoiling us! Last week we all discovered little solar flowers that dance in the sunshine and this week, we had goodie bags filled with post in notes, stickers, a pen and some chocolates! So fun! Certainly a bright spot in an otherwise gloomy (at least weather wise) week!

Ryan brought home flowers for me at the end of last week - and they stayed beautiful and strong for a whole week; I was able to enjoy their beautiful colors and smells for that week before they started to give up on life. I keep the roses that Ryan has given me while we have been dating in a box; I used to have it on display in our bedroom but cats like to slap at the roses and damage them... so now they are in the closet. However, as I pulled out the roses from the bouquet, Spook was so interested in them, so I sat them on the counter in front of him and he gently prodded and sniffed at them. Sweet little fluffball!

Saturday morning was so dreary and chilly - blah. Over a month ago I signed Ryan and I up to take part in the CAC Superhero 5K for my work and the race was taking place rain or shine, so we bundled up, put on our rain coats and headed to the race sight! There weren't a ton of participants, but there was an admirable showing and at 9 AM - we struck out to complete the 3.1 miles - in the drizzle!

The route took us through residential neighborhoods, so there were plenty of houses and landscaping and yard decorations to look at, ha-ha! Even with the less than perfect weather, I think we had a nice time cruising along, looking at our surroundings and just chatting with one another! And we did our three miles in under an hour and then headed home - where I had a warm shower waiting for me!

We celebrated my Dad's birthday a little late this year - he was in Guatemala on his actual birthday - so we had them up to visit on Saturday afternoon! We had lunch at Crosswinds Cafe, so my Dad could see the restaurant that overlooks the flight line and we also took them over to Orr's Farm Market. Unfortunately the wintry weather and all the rain had dampened the peach blossoms, but as we were getting ready to leave - the sun finally came out! It had been overcast and gray for about four days, so I was thrilled to see the sun!

We took my parents into Martinsburg to get some gelato and I showed them my new favorite spot to search for books: Bank Books! It's in an old bank on Queen Street and is filled with used books; so you can grab a paperback for around $8 - you can't beat that! Plus, the unique setting is so awesome! After our lunch and afternoon together, my parents headed home and Ryan took a nap - because sometimes the cats wake him up quite early! Later in the evening, we grabbed some groceries and whiskey barrel planters from Tractor Supply before heading home for a chill evening.

I finally finished the third season of White Lotus on Saturday night - this season was definitely my least favorite of the three. I was completely tickled though because Spook seemed absolutely enchanted by the whole thing. He got right up near the TV during a part of the show, and then as the final fifteen minutes kicked off, he sat completely enraptured by what was unfolding on the TV. I was cracking up!

Sunday was sunny and started out really chilly; I wore a dress to church and ended up being pretty chilly walking to and from the car. After church, we popped into Lowe's to look at the flowers and then it was home to eat a quick lunch. We had a list of things we wanted to accomplish at the house and so shortly before 12:30, we got right down to business! We moved furniture, organized and cleaned up some things, hung pictures we have been holding on to for a while and more... we got so much accomplished and the evening ended with both of us really feeling accomplished!

The kittens were obviously a huge help - ha! They found places to crawl into and get cozy while we worked around the house and when we were done, we had some pizza and wings for dinner, snuggled with the cats and ended the weekend feeling like we'd really made serious headway on the projects we have for ourselves over the next couple weeks. I cannot believe that we are almost halfway through April - I swear the first two months of the year last forever, but once March arrives - time flies!
