It's March 26th - today was meant to be Opening Day for the 2020 season of Major League Baseball. Alas, that date is here and baseball is not because our country...the entire world... is in the midst of battling COVID-19 and we are all doing our best to stay at least six feet from each other. Sadly, being crammed in sports stadiums doesn't really make for the best social distancing practice. *sigh*
When Sunday (the 22nd) arrived and it was a bright, sunny day - I knew the perfect place to go to see Cherry Blossoms that would be quite free of all the people. Nationals Park has some pretty gorgeous cherry trees around the park, both inside and outside and I'd already seen someone else post a picture about them - they were definitely in bloom!
The entire block that Nationals Park takes up is already decked out with new banners, signs and more that celebrate that the Nationals won the 2019 World Series and y'all know I couldn't resist snapping a picture of that!
As I'd thought - there was next to no one around. There were a few people here and there using the steps for exercise and of course, people walking around their neighborhood to get some air, but all in all - there wasn't a single person that we came in contact with. We took our pictures in peace.
It never hurts to get in plenty of exercise, so we made the block - walking all the way around the park and taking in all the sights. I loved seeing all the signs posted around the park, especially the congratulations message on the apartment building across the street from the main gate!
It seems that the 2020 baseball season is much like the rest of life right now - everything is in limbo. I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to be at Nationals Park this year but I hope it's sooner rather than later. I think we all hope this ends sooner rather than later, right?
Granted - it's like my sister said the other day - the longer there is a quarantine, the longer the Nationals hold the World Series title. I guess she's just looking for the bright side.
