Memorial Day Weekend

I suppose if Memorial Day Weekend has come and gone - that means summer is officially here, right? I know that summer doesn't really start until June 20th or so, but Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer - yes? My cats know nothing of the changing seasons except that now they can sit in front of the open back door and watch the birds and squirrels in the backyard... or drag wands upstairs and attempt to climb into the drawers under our bed. It's all the same, right?

Friday evening was the women's conference at our church - and even though it was completely out of my comfort zone, I went on my own! I've met a lot of people and I'm slowly gaining friends, but for this event I was also serving as a greeter and so I had to be there earlier. It was a little awkward at first, but it got better as the night went on... and as usual, the worship and the message were fantastic. I met some new people, heard a wonderful message and pushed my boundaries - so I'd call that a win.

We had a gorgeous weekend - if cooler than usual for this time of year - and so on Saturday after some breakfast and cat time, en route to get our groceries we stopped off on the main street of Charles Town and took a little walk, grabbing coffee from La Gazelle and poking our head into a few shops like Needful Things, Bushel & Peck, the Succulent Garden and one or two more. The town isn't big, but it definitely has some amazing little shops! It was a nice way to kick off our Saturday morning!

Later on Saturday afternoon, I had a hair cut to get done - which gave me ample time to finish up a book I'd been reading and when all was said and done, I had new hair and I'd marked another book off my reading list! We had a really low key Saturday evening; we had a Mexican feast and watched The Marvels on Disney+ ... which was really only okay. We have really started watching the Marvel line up at home because the movies just haven't quite been as good as they once were.

Sunday after early church, we suited up in our Nationals gear and headed to Nationals Park for the third of five games we have tickets to for the 2025 season! The Nationals had been on a winning streak before Sunday - but something must have broken, because they didn't get the W on Sunday afternoon!

We still had a good time though - the weather was beautiful, if a little bit cooler than we expected! I was so glad I'd put on jeans instead of shorts because I'd have ended up frozen if I'd worn shorts! Our seats are in the shade for a large portion of the game, depending on the time of day - and while that's usually a good thing, it was windy and very cool in the shade on Sunday! Brrr!

We enjoyed trying out the new Change Up Food Hall; I got a macaroni & cheese with pulled pork bowl, Ryan got a chicken and hot honey biscuit and both were delish! I finally got the chance to try out Electric Kool-Aid and the watermelon slush was incredible! I declined the vodka that added $8.99 to the cost - frozen watermelon slush was good enough for me, no extras needed. And yes - drinking it did make me colder, ha-ha!

Now that we've been to three of our five games - I sure hope we get to see at least one win this year! So far we've gotten three losses and while this team isn't the best there's ever been, they are also not the worst there's ever been - so I'd love to see a win (or two). We got home around 5:30, grabbed a pizza for dinner and chilled in our backyard with a fire for a good portion of the afternoon! It was a really nice way to end the day - especially because I got to swing around in my hammock.

Monday was another gorgeous day - again cooler than it usually is in May - but a gorgeous day nonetheless! We had a slow morning and then I popped over to Virginia to visit with a sweet friend who is recovering from heart surgery! We had a wonderful time catching up; we always pick up right where we left off, and this visit was no exception! Monday afternoon, Ryan and I headed to our prayer group for a big cook out - and there was so much delicious food, it was amazing!

It was such a good long weekend - and happily, Ryan and I are both only at work three days this week because we are headed out of town this weekend! So cheers to a three-day weekend on the front end of the week and a three-day weekend on the back end of the week!
