I saw a meme at the start of this weekend that said something to the effect of "2020 is a Leap Year and this year has definitely leapt into some crap"... although crap wasn't the word that they used. I have to say that it might be the most accurate meme I've seen in a while because one of the chief thoughts I had as I ate dinner on Friday night was... who would have imagined this year going this way... Certainly not I.
I snapped a selfie in my mask while having supper at Pavemint on Friday night and I was actually wearing the mask to not have to inhale the scent of cigarette smoke wafting from more than six feet over at another table. Gross. I have to confess that the food was only okay, so I'm not sure when if I'll be returning to that particular location... the rest of my Friday night was pretty chill and I didn't get up to very much.
Saturday was such a pleasant day - I did a whole lot of nothing and honestly, I enjoyed it so much! I ended up spending most of the day lounging outside in the sunshine, reading the book The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller and just enjoying the perfect weather. I did some things here and there throughout the day but really just enjoyed spending my time reading and soaking up the sun!
I had some delicious BBQ for dinner on Saturday night and then spent the rest of the evening... on the porch some more, ha-ha! I chatted with a friend and watched the stars come out, watched the neighborhood rabbit poking around our yard and then started watching the show Space Force on Netflix. It's a hoot!
Sunday was an absolutely gorgeous day! The sky was the perfect blue, there were puffy white clouds and the temperature hovered at around 70 - so once I'd watched the church service online and had lunch on the patio at McAlister's - it was off to the woods to do some hiking!
The Bears Den Overlook Trail was right at 2 miles long and was honestly a pretty easy trail - there were sections that were very rocky and required a bit of climbing but all in all it was a really neat trail that offered a stunning view without too much effort!
The trail is really aptly named because the vantage point is obviously what used to be (who am I kidding - it probably still is) a bears den and man - the bears certainly picked a room with a view! You could see the valley stretched out for miles and miles and birds circled the rock's edge, cresting and swirling on the breezes that ruffled the branches of the trees.
Watson - of course - was an absolute champ and tackled the trail more like a pup that is 12 months old as opposed to 12 years old! He leapt and scaled rocks like he was born to it, greeted other hikers with a wagging tail and sometimes a friendly lick on the hand and snapped his little jaws at some passing dogs (rude little mess). Even though he's getting older, it seems like when I take him on hikes or to do outdoor activities, it turns back the hands of time a little bit.
We stopped at Nall's Farmers Market on the way home and I was able to scramble into the giant Adirondack chair that's always on display. I would have happily stayed soaking up the sun but the chair was a little bit shaky and so once I'd gotten my coveted picture in the giant chair, I hopped down and perused the brilliantly colorful hanging plants in the greenhouse.
The final stop of the afternoon was at the local ice cream spot where I had the White Chocolate and Oreo swirl and Watson devoured a Pup Cup, shaking with excitement or the chills from the ice cream - or perhaps a combination of both! After getting home, I had some dinner out on the deck, chatted with some family members and a friend and watched some more Space Force - and just like that, another weekend in the books!
