Weirdly - my weekend was much busier than I thought it would be - and in a good way! The "office"; also known as my basement, was closed early and so my weekend started at 3:00, which is always nice! I instigated plans to paint and so the family donned our handy-dandy face masks and headed out to Lowe's!
It's still so strange to go shopping during this whole pandemic - there are Plexiglas shields between workers and customers, tape pieces on the floor marking out the six foot increments and all employees are wearing masks as they make their way around the store. I chose Dutch Tulip and Pixie Plum as colors I wanted to use and we passed them under the partitions to have them mixed up... so wild. We also popped into Wal-Mart to grab some grocery items before picking up our Applebee's take-out and I know - it sounds like a thrilling Friday night. You're right!
After dinner, we decided to watch another Marvel movie and eventually settled on Avengers: Age of Ultron as our Friday night entertainment. I forgot how long that movie was... but still enjoyable, ha-ha! We also discovered a rabbit eating the flowers planted in the backyard and Watson discovered that he very much likes popcorn!
I slept in on Saturday morning - which was glorious - and then after coffee, it was time to move some furniture and prepare to paint some walls! A slight casualty of the moving of furniture was that when we moved the TV, the Lucite stand it balances on was broken and so it's currently waiting to be wall-mounted in the midst of the new bright yellow background! The painting went quite quickly and we finished in time to have a late lunch around 1:00 - I rewarded myself with grilled pimento cheese sandwiches, so freaking delicious and maybe an acquired taste?
The Dutch Tulip is a really bright color but I also really love it - it adds such a needed pop of color to the white wall(s) and really looks so good! I spent the afternoon doing some reading, getting in some exercise and just generally doing nothing - which was welcome after the painting. I also got some things hung back up and organized things with the new and vivid wall(s) behind them! I just think it looks so good! I also did a Paint Your Own Cookie - because a sweet neighbor shared them with our family - and not only was it fun and really neat, it tasted delicious!
Sunday dawned earlier than I'd intended but with coffee to fortify me, I began gathering my supplies to make Mother's Day brunch for my sweet Momma! She deserves delicious brunch every day but I can't do that and we probably wouldn't benefit from it - because while it was all very tasty, it was also fairly fattening! *sigh* It was all really easy to put together and it went over really well - so much so that I think I'll be doing the same thing on Father's Day!
I made a Hashbrown Ham and Cheese Casserole, Lemon Rolls and Vanilla Pudding Fruit Salad - all taken from Plain Chicken's website. Everything got two thumbs up, so I'll be sharing those recipes tomorrow! We enjoyed our brunch and my Mom opened all her gifts and then we enjoyed the absolutely beautiful weather that arrived on Sunday: blue skies, fluffy clouds and a temperature hovering around 65!
We walked around the neighborhood before heading over to Meadow Farm's Nursery to pick out some flowers - really my Mom did the choosing and it was just even more a Mother's Day gift to her because she was able to choose some azaleas, some shrubs, a bright pink hanging planter and happily - she got the last gardenia that they had in stock! I can't wait to see everything blooming around the house in the next few months!
We stopped by our local favorite - Newtown Creamery - on the way home because they were giving a free cup or cone to all mothers and we certainly wanted to get some ice cream! They have some of the best ice cream I've ever had and I went with a Grasshopper ice cream with Oreo's blended in - so delicious and so definitely not on any Weight Watchers menu! After some more time spent soaking up the sun, we ate leftovers for dinner and watched the season finale of Outlander - which was good but really intense.
It was such a good weekend and was capped off by a really nice Mother's Day for my Mom - which she deserves! She deserves the world, but I suppose a really nice day will have to do for now! Here's to the week ahead - may it be a good one!
