Well - we are past the mid-point of the month of August. *sigh* I cannot even believe it. I know I have said this over and over but I feel like the first few months of this year just dragged but now the final months of the year are flying by...
Friday night was pretty laid back - I ended up getting in some exercise, having Panera for dinner and watching the second season of Derry Girls on Netflix. It certainly wasn't a thrilling Friday night but then again - they can't all be, right? When I finally went to bed, I couldn't quite find the pup - until I realized he'd curled himself into the blanket on the end of the bed - little goose.
Saturday morning was pretty lazy - I slept in, exercised, ate multiple bowls of cereal for lunch and then got myself put together to go into DC for the Nationals game. We rode the Metro into the city, gathered our Patrick Corbin bobble heads and headed up to the Club Level to get some dinner - I went with Pulled Pork Nachos that were divine!
The seats we had for the game were fantastic - we were essentially right behind home plate on the second level - the seats are cushioned, there is an air conditioned club level right through the doors behind us. Like I said - fantastic seats. The game itself was pretty fantastic... it started out fine but really seemed to go downhill in the bottom of the third when the Brewers scored five runs - eek!
The Nationals battled back though and the game ended up being an absolute thrill to watch. The Nationals started that battle in the bottom of the fourth when Juan Soto hit a 2-run home run (the first of four home runs we'd get to see...) and then with Kurt Suzuki and Gerrardo Parro on the bases, Adam Eaton hit a 3-run home run and tied the game up!
The score flipped back to 8-5 Brewers and then the Nationals once again loaded players onto the bases... Kurt Suzuki scored on a double by Victor Robles and made the score 8-6... and then more players loaded up the bases and Trea Turner hit a 3-run home run and made the score 9-8 Nationals. The score leveled up again in the eighth when Howie Kendrick hit a 2-run home run and made the score 11-8 Nationals.
We began to walk toward the exit at the start of the ninth and ended up witnessing through the jumbotron and the wails of the fans around us... the absolute collapse of the game. Sean Doolittle; who has previously been such a beast of a closer, surrendered three home runs in four batters and the game ended up at 12-11 to start the bottom of the ninth. Victor Robles tied the game in the bottom of the ninth and the game ended up going to extra innings...
We kept up with the game on my phone as we rode the Metro... and then kept up with the game as we hopped in the car and drove home. The Nationals and the Brewers battled for fourteen innings, going back and forth and the final out and the end of the game was literally called as we turned into our home! The Nationals lost the game 14-13 - but what a battle it was!
Sunday after church and a longer than predicted lunch, we popped into Kirkland's to do a little shopping and then I whiled away the afternoon watching the Nationals absolutely wallop the Brewers, hitting eight home runs and winning the game 16-8! I also caught up on two more episodes of Four Weddings and Funeral and did a bit of reading...
While I was taking an evening bubble bath, some thunderstorms rolled in and by the time I'd gotten out, gotten dressed and peeked outside - the sky was on fire with color. I snapped some pictures and passed the rest of the evening trying to catch up on Legion, watching Beach Front Bargain Hunt with my Mom and hitting the sack early!
