This is for You Nickolee!

I've been a bad blogger - I feel like I start almost every post with that. One of my dearest friends reminded me that I hadn't blogged in a while & I'd been meaning to, so I decided to just get right down to it. Hope you especially enjoy this one Nickolee. :)

Spring has Sprung!

I guess I'll talk about the month of May - it has been fairly interesting. I wrote three times in April but that was mostly all about my vacation to the Pacific Northwest. May was eventful & I don't know that I necessarily mean that in a good way. I mean...let me just tell you that my month started very differently than I thought it would. My Dad had come to visit the last week of April & he so graciously bought me my very own....weed eater! Thrills & elation! I even got to use it & I thought I was pretty cool. I thought...that is the key word(s) in that sentence. See - I mean, I look like I know what is going on, right?

That's right...I can weed eat like a champ!

Well, after the great adventure of weed eating life continued on as normal...or so it seemed. The whole week following my great yard work adventure I just felt awful - I was worn out & it didn't matter how early I went to bed it was like I was fighting to surface in the mornings. Thursday rolled around & I was physically aching & the headache that had started on Wednesday evening just got stronger all day long... By the time Thursday night came along I was having muscle spasms & I was running a fever. When I woke up Friday & still felt this way, I knew that something had to be up & I headed for the doctor. I thought I was getting the flu but after talking to the nurse & having a thorough examination...the nurse discovered a very telling mark on my lower back...

This doesn't look good....

Hey - guess what? I had Lyme Disease!! At some point in the past week (probably during my yard adventures) a tick had latched on to me & left it's mark. The fever & muscle spasms were a sign that the infection was getting into my blood stream & had I waited a couple more days to be concerned I might have been booking myself a stay in the hospital. I mean, I don't even try to live my life on the edge & look at all this fun! I got put on this antibiotic that is so strong it is also used to treat - syphilis & gonorrhea. So yeah, when I stopped by the pharmacy, on top of feeling like crap I was pretty sure if the pharmacist looked at me funny I was going to take her out. Thankfully, she didn't & I was able to go home & recover in peace. The most delightful aspect of getting lyme disease is that you can never truly get rid of it. The antibiotics will take care of it to the point that it will not be a threat but it will always linger in my system & there will be times that it will make me feel weak, tired & just not so great. Oh well...I guess now that means I'm a lymey. Life goes on & I'm sure things will be fine.

The Lymey enjoys a baseball game...

The rest of May was fairly uneventful, although after the joy of getting Lyme disease I don't think I really needed any more events. I was happy to have a little boring for a while. I could share another delightful mouse tale, but brace yourself because this one isn't pretty.

I spent a Thursday evening near the beginning of May going around & filling in all the spaces around where the pipes came into the house - I used this crazy expanding foam stuff that worked like a charm. I thought. Actually, I think it does work & I just have no clue how competely crafty mice are & what holes they might be using to come into the house. I was feeling so happy & mouse free...life was going great. Until I walked in the door last Thursday & the smell of dead animal hit me like a ton of bricks. And it had to be pretty strong because I was in the midst of battling a summer cold & I couldn't smell worth a darn.

I immediatly started freaking out because all I could smell was dead animal, dead animal & my brain was going into overdrive. I finally remembered that I had stashed a mouse trap behind my chair in the living room, just to be on the safe side. I had completely forgotten about it, so if that tells you anything about how long that mouse could have been there...well, yeah. I moved the chair & had to stifle a scream...

Imagine this...but on a trap & more gross.

There was a dead mouse on the trap. A dead mouse that had been there so long, he had gone through rigor mortis & was now in the more mushy stage of decomposition...and the smell was no doubt because his guts were beginning to spill out onto my floor. I took a picture but then I deleted it because I couldn't really think of anyone I wanted to share that nasty with - oh, besides my family. Ha-ha! So I carefully extracted the trap with the mouse still on it & then scrubbed the floor with Lysol to get up the mouse gut seepage. And then I had to quickly change clothes & head to the church for Bible study. On the way to church, I ran over a snake & with that...I kind of had a melt down. I text my best friend & the gist of the message was as follows:

I JUST HIT A SNAKE! I AM DONE! I AM TIRED OF THIS - TIRED OF BEING
THIS INDEPENDENT SINGLE GIRL WHO CAN KILL HER OWN
MICE & BUGS! I DON'T WANT TO DO IT ANYMORE & I AM
DONE. I HATE RATS! I HATE MICE! I HATE SNAKES! I HATE
NATURE!! PRINCE CHARMING BETTER GET ON HIS HORSE & GET
TO RIDING. I AM DONE WITH THIS!!

So yeah. Slight meltdown. Thankfully my best friend has a cool head & just told me that while he agreed with me on hating rodents & usually nature in general, it would all be okay. And you know what, it was all okay. Now it is one of those great stories to tell people. But seriously - Prince Charming really does need to get that horse in gear. Because I am tired of this stuff.
